Literary Devices and YouTube!

I know I am not the only one who uses animated shorts in the classroom. There are substantial benefits to showing a short film in place of a reading when introducing new concepts:

  • In a class of remedial readers, teachers do not have question whether students comprehended the reading.
  • Our English Language Learners will easily gather as much information from a film without dialogue as native speakers.
  • We can ensure the short focuses closes upon the term being discussed.
  • Most importantly – silent films allow for interpretation which in turn leads to richer classroom discussions!!
